XMail Mail Server

Hi all,

I've recently installed Xmail onto my NTServer and have tried to run it as a service.
When I do I get the error message

"Could not start the XMail Server service on \\pwdjp_s6.
Error 2140: An internal Windows NT error occurred "

When I check the logs there are 2 error message's

"The description for Event ID (0) in Source (XMail) could not be found. It contains the follwoing insertion string(s): Unable to create file"

and

"The description for Event ID(0) in Source (XMail) could not be found. It contains the following insertion string(s): XMail error: 0. {Unable to create file}: The operation completed successfully, (0x0)"

I downloaded the mail server from the XMail site and I have followed the instructions provided.

I need to get this mail server running, or find another free option. I thought about using NTSendmail but I've never been able to retrieve the documentation to run it.

This is a bump rather than any specific help as I'm not familiar with the OS or the program. Have you tried the FAQ page on the XMail website or tried contacting their tech support?

I used ArGoSoft Mail Server on my XP computer. It was pretty easy to get going.

Unable to create file

Sounds like a permissions issue to me. To what drive/folder did you install the mail software to? What users/system accounts have permissions and what permissions do they have to that drive/folder?

Well I found the answer last night while I was looking to create some more space on my home computer.

I came across the zip file for xmail and dbl clicked it. It opened into a sub folder (XP doesn't open winzip or winace to do this) and I noticed that it had an extra couple of folders.

Little did I know, winzip and winace don't extract empty folders by default, it's a small detail but worth knowing, especially if you want xmail to actually work.

Thanks for your suggestions as well.

Justa.
