virtual includes...

Are kicking my butt! I'm calling this line in my htm. The ssitest page is included in the root for the site.

<td><!--#include virtual="/ssitest.htm"--></td>

the ssitest page consists of just one line of code, (will get real code later once I get this to work)

<IMG SRC="disco.gif">

The disco.gif is not called on the original page but should magically appear because of the virtual include right? the only tutorial I could find on this was at webmonky...

Like mfata suggested make sure that SSI is enabled. Also be sure that your main page, that you're trying to include the other into, ends with either .shtm or .shtml.

Hmm I thought that virtual includes were a form of SSI "lite" in which SSI did not have to be enabled and the page did not have to be name with an ssi type extension (shtm, .shtml, or stm). I thought thats what they were saying in that webmonkey tutorial.

Is this the part that you're referring to?

These fragments are separate files that are usually named with the .htmlf suffix, although it's not required.

...that is referring to the html files you're going to included into another file. They can end with htm and html. Unless your host has configured the system otherwise, the main page needs to end with shtml or shtm, etc.

This is what I've always understood anyway.

Got it!

Ok HTM and HTML pages will aslo process virtual includes if you configure it so in IIS. I went and told those extensions to use ssinc.dll and everything works, woot.
