Question
dumb web site searching questions...

Bare with me, trying to get a handle on how website search boxes/engines/spiders work.

If you just have a "small" (40 some pages) website on one server, do you need somethng as beefy as netscape compass to
do your searching or are there easy code ways to do it??

This one seems to be pretty popular and it's free. From Matt's Script Archive. It'scalled Simple search.

Matt's scripts are known to be "badly written, buggy, and insecure" - so I give to you:

Cool but....My site is all IIS/windows boxes, don't think a pearl script will work there. I guess I need a javascript or asp solution.

No, you can install PERL in IIS... Just get ActivePERL:

We use it here, it's nice.
