What trick is this site using
First off, I know they are doing something fishy at this ?unnamed site?. Here is the story, a friend asks a place to optimize his site so he shows up higher on search engines. He pays them and within 3 weeks his place is #3!!! And get this, the place never had access to his domain. Sure they changes his tags but there is more to this one.
Im trying to figure out what kind of search engine trick they are doing, so I look on Google at what the Google spider Cached (I guess this is what the spider saw when it went through the site) and there is nothing. If you do this for other sites you will see their page with the keywords highlighted, with this site there is nothing at all!!! Before I saw this I thought they might be cloaking but at least something would show up that way --- right?
What do you guys think, I cant tell the site but ill give all the details I can. Basically, how can someone remotely ? without access to the server/website ?trick the search engines into ranking them higher.
PS- As for links, they have some but not enough to get he position they have
PS2 -I cant tell you guys the site because I know the person and don?t want to harm their business in any way.
Thanks |

If you know the person, why not ask him directly?

Google doesn't rate it's results buy anything that's on the actual site. Google ranks sites by the number of other sites that link to yours.
So even if you have just a humble little web site that only gets 3 hits a month, if there are tons of links to your page from other people's pages than Google assumes you must have a good site if all these people are providing a link to you...so Google gives you a higher rating.
I don't know what this company is doing for your friend, but I'd suspect that they simply have a whole horde of meaningless (IOW phony) pages on the web. For a fee all they have to do is put a link to the customer's site on a few hundred phony pages. Google's spider has no way of knowing those pages are phony, and thus he gets a higher Google rating.
I'm pretty sure that's how it works…at least basically. |

I have seen them setup a doorway page with 6-8 different sets of Meta tags. the page never displays to the user, but automaticlly redirects to the site, and no one is the wiser. You get in the seach engines, never have to add tags to the site at all. The engine crawls the doorway page only. Some Info On Doorway Pages

Thanks guys for the replys but...
I did check google for links --- link:[domain.com] and they have some strange links but not 200 or 300 links. Also, why is their no cached info by google.
Let me tell you though, this is one good trick though, they have a great rating and get a ton of hits this way.
I just did that link search again on google and they are only linked to like 3 sites?????
They charged my friend alot so this trick pays to know.
Thanks guys so far, any other ideas?? |

Here are some meta tags that dont give away the site, can you tell anything from these tags,
<meta NAME="distribution" CONTENT="Global">
<meta NAME="resource-type" content="document">
<meta NAME="revisit-after" content="2 days">
<meta NAME="robots" content="index,follow">
<meta NAME="language" content="en-us">
<meta NAME="rating" content="general">
especially the robot tag???
