Question Internet Explorer doesn't load my website correctly!

    Hello,

I have a website called Talking Walking Dead (Talking Walking Dead - The Walking Dead Fan Site) which is a fan site for the comics and TV show, The Walking Dead.

Basically my site will not load correctly through Internet Explorer. All other browsers I have tried manage it perfectly fine. When trying through IE, the graphics, text and tables seem to overlap and are basically just in a complete mess. The strange thing is when I refresh the page in IE after it's initial loading, everything seems to be fine. It's only the initial load that displays incorrectly. This problem is not unique to me, as I have had many other people get in touch with me letting me know the exact same thing.

I have had this problem for a LONG time now but have never managed to figure out a solution for it, and so I am relying on somebody here to help me out if possible!

If anyone has any ideas at all, please let me know. I will appreciate your response greatly!

    Many Thanks!

What program did you use to make the website. Dreamweaver, Front Page, etc.

EDIT: I looked at the page and see it's Wordpress. I looked at the code and think Wordpress is a little 'wordy'. 2000 lines of code to make that page? I guess you have a lot on it and maybe that's the problem. A whole lot of content. You could start by removing things and test it in IR to see what might be messing it up. But first save a version of the site as you have it now so you don't mess it up experimenting.

I have created it all through Wordpress using a premium theme which I purchased called 'Evolve Pro'

Ok, thanks. I will try what you have suggested and get back to you!

Generally those one time types of errors are related to scripts, something is or isn't loading that is causing the rest of the page to be off-set with IE. It could also be some other error related to your coding and the CSS used being a tad off. IE doesn't render it right from the get go, but when refreshed reads it better...I'd start by removing some of the scripts though and see if that helps.

edit: depending on the version of IE and FF you are using, you should have debugging tools you can run to see any errors listed. You might also pass it through a validation tool to see if there are any errors that might stand out.

Yeah that seems to make perfect sense. Can you recommend any validation tools, or what my next best step should be? Thanks!

Would anyone like to tell me how I go about fixing these specific errors? I am not much good at figuring out what I have to do exactly with the errors I have. If anyone can help shine some light, I would really appreciate it!

Here is another version of the validation. [Invalid] Markup Validation of http://talkingwalkingdead.com/ - W3C Markup Validator

Telling you how to fix it is like someone saying can you tell me how to rebuild a car engine. You need tools, experience, and a general skill as an auto mechanic. Absolutely nothing against your ability but it is obvious you are not a web designer, know anything about code, or have the tools to work with this. Wordpress is a simplified system to do the most it can without someone knowing the real roots of what is going on.

Now most of the errors I see should not mess up your page like it is. I don't personally use WordPress so I can't begin to tell you how to use it to fix things. While it would be nice to fix these errors so your site is acceptable, you might first try some general ideas below. These are some errors I have seen throw web pages off.

First, be sure all the photos you use are the size you want them on the page. Putting in a large photo in a smaller size element might be OK for most browsers but IE may not handle it properly. I can't say I know what Wordpress would do in a case like this but I've seen some programs that let the full size of the photo be posted but pull in the size with code. Problem is the full size is still there lurking and sometimes it trys to be it's real size. Are all your photos sizes exactly how you want them to show on the website?

Second, use only web safe fonts. (look it up) If you use a exotic font chances are that not every machine will have that font and it will be substituted. The substitution will not act and size like the original. If a person doesn't have that font on their machine it will be substituted and it may throw off the page.

Now as far as your specific problem, it might be a code out of order. The error report refers to at least one out of place tag. This is why the page loads bad the first time but once all the code is read into the browser it then has what it needs to render it properly the second go around.

I am using IE6 (MyIE2 in front) and the site looks fine here! (On first load of the page)

Although i have noticed what you said geddes-i about sometimes having to RELOAD PAGES to have it format right,im not sure why but on your site I DIDNT HAVE TO DO THAT! (I have scripting disabled)
