    Wink Recommendations and help required!

Hey folks, I was just tasked with the webmaster duties for our non-profit organizations website.

I'm looking for recommendations on software (no money avail.) and recommendations of how to improve on the site.

Any and all help is appreciated!

The site is: Oregon Band of Brothers and my login site is an ftp.

P.S. I can already see a lot of changes that I need/want to make.
    P.S.S. This is a non-paid position.

    Hey,

I'm not the best, but perhaps I could be of some assistance... I've got three sites running, maybe I can help you out...

I use FileZilla and NotePad++ to do what I need, and both are freeware...
I've seen the light... It was green, flashy and attached to a Network Interface Card...
Whenever someone says "You can't miss it", I invariably do...

FZ will enable you to upload (download, and move) files to the site, N++ will mean that you can create, edit and delete files - which is what you'd need to do to change things like the menu links, the contents of the page file(s) and so on...

I'm on Skype when I'm at work (and *sometimes* when I'm at home too) if you want any "hands on" help....only for fellow F@H types...

    EDIT:
N++ can do that when you've installed and configured the FTP plugin...saves a LOT of time when you're making changes to the page/s...

yeah, what NLM says. As long as your doing static pages, n++ is the best text editor out there.

If you had dynamic content, ie: planning to add regular updates, a content management system like wordpress (php + mysql) is my recommendation. a cms is a lot of fun because you can install plugins and changes the visual template of your page pretty easily.

You can also use a combination of the two, similar to what I did (if I don't still do it) with a couple of pages on one of my sites...

Most of it is "static", but with frames that are updated much more frequently than I could be bothered to update the "main" page...and you can include frames for any WP/etc sites that are updated more frequently...

Okay, the Oregon Bend of Brothers website concept page is up for review.

Taking the Grandson to the lake for a bit. Will start coding this evening, then go live Sometime Sunday and the tweaking will begin. Comments are welcome!

Note: These are rather large files and may load a little slowly. These are only pictures, not a working site.

There's a lot going on in the navigation bar, and the squashed down font accentuates that. Perhaps some java / collapsible menus?

Which browser are you using, font looks fine to me....although that isn't to say that there haven't been any changes to the menu.....
