sendmail. Need we say more? =]
Well, I'm also not sure if you run Windows or Unix.. But I would recommend Sendmail.
On the other hand, if you feel like commiting suicide from nasty config files, you can play with 'exim' ..
Personally, I like sendmail better...
But that's my personal opinion.. =]
On the other hand, I'm not sure if exim will do POP Before SMTP. Sendmail has a few hacks or setups that will do this for you, though. |

if you use sendmail make sure you lock it down tightly as it has a bunch of security issues and could also very easily end up getting you added to a "spammers list" if mis-configured and you end up with an open relay!

Hi... Another route is to look at a little more complex program for sending mail than just sendmail (which works great for server-side apps, BTW).
When I ran an Apache server off my computer a while back, PostCast Server worked just fine for me. Not too big, pretty simple to install, and does have several settings to configure but nothing major. I've heard from a few of my associates that they like it, and it works on large or small sites equally as well.
I've also used ArgoSoft, as suggested by Chaotic above, and was pleased with its functionality. It is a very small program, so if you're looking to save disk space or whatever definitely take a look at it.
So yeah, just check out a few programs and see what you like.
Later. |
