I have been doing c++ in school for years. Only question, besides being a good base for other languages, what is made with c++? |

Yes, you most certainly can. C++ can handle everything from games to word processors to enterprise-level applications to embedded control systems. |

Well, the two dominant desktop OSes (Windoze and GNU/Linux) are written in C++ for starters...
How about, pretty much everything? |

| Certainly the linux kernel & a large number of libs have traditionally been coded in C not C++
I would say C++ is a good language to learn as its very flexible & people seem keen on object oriented stuff (which it obviously lends itself to), however I suck at coding so will stick to Perl as its easy to hack together simple stuff

HEY!!! I'm so glad someone posted this question. I just got done w/ a C++ class - no-OOP. I learned a little bit, but man I just came out wandering what can I do with this stuff. The instructor did not really associate any live applications w/ this stuff so it was hard to learn what he was talking about. + it was 8 wks long. Anyway I noticed a post with 0's & 1's a couple of days ago, How do you read this stuff. Is it seperated into 8 byte charactes, or ?. I don't know. any help here would be appreciated. |

You can do anything in C++ modern games are written in it, almost any type of application from Servers to OSes, Word Processors, Databases - just about anything.
What post are you on about?

lambo, ask your buddy martoch I believe he has a few posts in there
C++ is probably the most popular language out there for doing really hardcore low level work. Its an amazing language, but of course with that power comes difficulty. If you haven't started with the OOP you haven't even begun!
That is where the FUN is!! lol
It starts getting ugly there... |
