On-line Registration/Payment Help

Hey guys,

I have been contracted to build a 'simple' [HA] online registration/credit card payment application for a symposium that a department at our school is hosting.

The problem is, I have no idea where to start. I have until Nov. 1 to implement the system......

So, not to sound like I don't know anything about this at all, but where do I begin?

Our school does offer a cgi application that will actually process the credit card, so I don't need to worry about that.

What I do need to do is build a database to store each registrant, send the form to the credit card processing agent AND send the data to the database.

Any suggestions on what to use for this system?

Well, if I was starting tomorrow, I'd probably use MySQL for the database and php for the interface. That said, I know nothing about MySQL and very little php. Do you know what the cgi's written in? If it's in perl, you could do well using that instead... Good luck, and get cracking!

The CGI app is written in Perl.

I am meeting with someone on Friday who manages an online reg/payment system using this particular agent. Although his system is written in Cold Fusion, he assures me that he can get me on track easily.

And I am 99% sure that I do have MySQL and php available for use on the server, so I will most likely go that route and just call the Perl agent at the appropriate time.

We will see. Should have most of it done over the weekend. Will come back if I run into any problems!

Thanks for the suggestion.
