HTTP 401.3 - Access denied by ACL on resource

I am running IIS (PWS) on Windows 2000 Pro.

Whenever I use Mozilla 1.1 or Netscape 6.2 to view the pages on my Personal Web Server I get this message.

Though when I view my pages with I.E. they display fine.

Anyone knwo how I can fix this problem?

Thanks

Have you set your authentication to integrated windows? It might cause the problem.

Obviously you haven't enabled anonymous access which causes access denied (other would be you've explicitly denied all ip addresses but specified, but that wouldn't be the case since ie opens them).

I had the same problem using Visual InterDev 6.0 on Windows 2000. After searching and fiddling for hours, I finally tried a winning combination (for me anyway). Try activating "Basic authentication" option in the Directory Security tab of your web directory. Leave everything else as-is, or else it may stop working in IE.

This works for me because my development network is blocked on port 80. If your environment is open on that port, there may be security issues to deal with.

Hope this helps.

It could be that your NT authentication is working but you've denied access via NTFS permissions on the filesystem. Right click the folder where the files are placed and check the security tab. If you're trying to come in on anonymous it could be that the folder isn't allowing the IUSR_<computername> account to access that folder
