AutoCAD 2002 and Visual Basic 6, the nightmare begins!

For the love of god and all that is holy, help!

I have tried everything under the sun to solve this perplexing, idiotic and 'typical microsoft' prolem.

I have AutoCAD2002 and Visual Basic 6 (from VS Enterprise Edition) installed. Every time I launch Visual Basic 6 it decides to launch the windows installer and start 'configuring autocad'. It toddles along and then requests acad.msi from the AutoCAD2002 CD I have lost somewhere (why can't life have a 'find' button?). I cancel the install and then it tries again. This happens EVERY time I try to run VB6, of course VB6 still functions but its hair-tearingly infuriating to be bothered with an annoying installation every single time.
The same thing happens if I attempt to access the Visual Data Manager which, incidentally, doesn't appear in the add-in manager. I have tried everything from registry editing and file renaming to try and get Vb6 to stop installing some obscure AutoCAD components but nothing seems to work.
Does anyone know a solution to this problem which doesn't require uninstalling ACad or VB6?

Which did you install first? AutoCAD from the sounds of it. I've never had that problem, but I always intalled AutoCAD first.

Does it request ACAD.MSI or ACADMAP.MSI? I have 2002Map5, so I've probably got a different installer (.msi is an installer file) than you do.

I have no idea how to fix the problem. I would start by reinstalling VB6. If I had a problem between the two of them, that's what I usually did, and it usually worked. You don't have to uninstal, just install right over the top of your existing stuff.

Otherwise I would maybe check your default references in VB and make sure that the acad stuff isn't checked. I don't know if that makes or difference, or if it even does that, but it's a guess.

I programmed my VBAcad stuff almost exclusively with ACAD's onboard VB IDE. I got so used to it, I forgot how to use VB6 IDE at one point.

Sorry can't be more help. I haven't been working in two months, so I'm a little rusty.

Oh, and welcome to TechIMO.
