Cygwin/Mingw problem

Okay,.....so I've heard you can compile Windows applications using Mingw under Cygwin with GCC.

....Only problem is that it fails to compile even the MOST SIMPLE Windows demo applications!!!!

Either that, or, it will compile, but, when run, it immediately returns without displaying any windows or popup boxes which the program has made.

To me, that rates it as WORTHLESS!!!

So, unless someone can show me how to get this off the ground, I would like a DECENT FREE compiler that works with Win16/Win32 executables...............SHEESH.........you wouldn't think it would be THAT hard just to compile a SIMPLE Windows application using a library that is supposed to mimic it

Isn't Borland still mega cheap? It'd save you a lot of headaches.

Post some code. I use multiple versions of MinGW (the Cygwin version and the ReactOS version) on a regular basis, and I've never had any problems.

I found out how to make it work. (Wish this was more obvious, though)

You have to pass -mwindows as a command line option to gcc, and THEN the compiled executable WILL work.
