Studio.net

A buddy of mine gave me the Studio.net program and it is saying that I need a Component CD at the begining of the installation. He failed to give me that CD and has since left. I was hoping Microsoft would have the items on their website somewhere but they don't. If anyone has this from their copy, and it is not against the law, could you please PM me? Thanks.

I have no idea. My buddy gave me the program CD and the serial. I thought that was all you needed. At the beginning of installation it says that all of the .net requirements were not met. At first I thought it was just .net extension that is downloadable from the update page. It's not. Still telling me that I need to update my system using the Component CD. What's on it? I have no idea. It's not the actual program though. Probally just bogus MS stuff.

.NET Studio is like Visual Studio, As far as I know...

The component CD is basically the "Components" that make up .NET Studio... something which is part of the program, and microsoft probably won't send you a copy...

Cody is correct, the Components cd comes with Visual Studio.NET and they'll expect you to have received the cd with the product. Your best bet would be to go back to that same buddy to get the components cd somehow.

Watch out though, .NET is a HUGE PIG!! It'll take up at least a GIG on your HD. I have VB.NET and C# installed and I think it blew out 1.5 gigs on the data drive and another 2-300 megs on teh system drive
Not good on a 10 gig HD on a laptop

If you're using it for C++ I don't really think you'd be gaining anything unless you wanted to write something specifically for .NET seeing as the language is the same. Your app would probably run a bit slower in C++.NET (if thats what they call it) seeing as it now rides upon another intermediate layer (much like Java does I believe)

Well after quite a bit of searching I finally figured out what was on it. Like I said, a bunch of MS junk. .Net package, 2.0 installer, and bunch of patches and service packs. It also includes Frontpage extensions, and something else. I also noticed that it was going to take up 500 megs on the OS installed harddrive, and required an additional 1.5 gigs of additional space. I'm sure it would be pretty cool, but it's not worth it to me. Oh well. Thanks guys.
