Need help with Python....

I wasnt sure where to post this, so someone move it if its in the wrong area. Anyway, Im having a problem with the Python Shell i downloaded. In the tutorials, it shows the shell as a regular Windows shell, witht the FIle buttons and stuff like that. but my shell is a DOS shell it seems, and there is no way for me to start a new document. is there another version i need? i have 2.2.2

I believe python comes with its own shell?

When you install it, it has the command prompt from teh start menu I think.
Or am I misunderstanding the question
