Order form

Hi techimo's
At the moment a lady has asked me to build her web site,She sells handpainted t-shirts, The only problem that i will have is that i need a order form.
Something that is easy to use and self generates an email or something with all the details on it..
Any Ideas, She will pay for it to be done properly....(if need be)
And it also has to work with dreamweaver ultradev...

Have you chosen a hosting site for it yet? I know there are a few free asp and asp.net 'shopping cart' apps out there. The one we snagged is pretty much a complete web site. You just stick your pictures in it or modify the HTML to look like whatever you want. Check out planet source code and google for 'free asp shopping cart'.

But i was hoping for something that wont need to be hosted,

There are about 10 designs in 5 colours, i did not want to go to a shopping cart yet , as we feel there are not enough products,
Carts are great for heaps of searching of pages and purchases, but this will most likely be overkill for the few products she has

Any ideas!!???

not sure what you mean by "hosted", but not hosted, not website.

'hosted' meaning?:

you wanna website, ok.
you wanna do this on own, more power to ya, AND you can accomplish...

do you ask:

how do I host a website that sells tshirt?

Excuse my ignorance gentleman.....

Sorry i THINK i meant a server going all the time???

Dont shopping carts require your machine to be always running on the net to fulfill this duty...

(apart from the free asp mentioned above)

I checked out this site

http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/8122.html

Help me understand this a bit.. These guys will host the shopping cart for free and i make my site with the pics all on thier site,So when the user pushes a pic on my site it will link to this free asp site, Or on my site i just have a link "Order form" wich will take them to the shopping cart page...then they view the products..
Sorry if this sounds like a stupid q....

Would asking for free hosting with free shopping cart be too much too ask for

Most of the deals seam a bit dodgy, whats a fair amount of $$ for hosting with a shopping cart ...

I think it would be fair to say that traffic to the site will be minimal to begin with anyway.

I know this post is heading well into a different forum category
But i know they dont like ppl starting new threads on factors already being dealt with....

Cheers peoples
And Guvna's (what year is it mihearty's)Argh har har

Excuse my ignorance...

excused, ONLY if you do same.

ignorance defined as 'lack of knowledge' is fine. it is how one learns.

yes. would asking for a free tshirt and couch surfing your place for 2 days be too much?

try this:

offer free stuff, maybe free lunches, see how that works and post back.

Well, any shopping cart software is going to have to be database driven. Well, not ALL of it. I suppose you could get away with scripting it, but then there's no way to tell what's in stock and what's not and all that jazz.

I think you can use cookies and such to keep track of what the user has selected (maybe a session variable in java?) and then have the webpage read the cookie (or variable) and send an e-mail to whoever it is that takes care of your business.

The advantages of a database driven sales sight are many. You can put on the page what's in stock and what's not. You can keep track of what the current user has selected in the shopping cart on the server (I think). And it's super easy to add new items: Enter the item into the database and a picture or whatever else you want.

Database driven shopping carts mean you have to have some sort of server running 24/7 though. That means you get to pay for a hosting service that offers support for your type of software/database. My company offers support for everything, but being a small personal site, I doubt it's something you'd want to get into.

should also add, some useful stuff, as in:

http://www.freeservers.com/
www.geocities.com

you can get free hosting and even maybe free CGI or PHP, etc. as in:

http://www.netfirms.com/

but be warned, you get what you pay for, which is nothing. most, if not all, place advertising banners and annoying crap on free sites, and even if the data transfer and storage numbers look enticing, there are serious limitation attached, as in:

FREE 25Mb!, but no file size over 100kb!
1 GB/month!, but, broken down this way 31 days in month, 24 hours in day, 60 minutes in hour 60 seconds in minute...

1/32*24*60*60 = data transfer per second. YOU CANNOT EXCEED THAT data transfer rate.

just love business people who want to do business fo free, nice try...
