frontpage problems

i'd posted this in the 'apps and OS' forum without any reply, so posting it here in the hope that someone might know the answer who doesnt browse 'apps and os'

most of the HTML that i hardcode into frontpage is getting auto formatted.
e.g. say i don't want a <dd> around an <img>, but FP thinks its necessary. so it puts it in. if i go manually delete the <dd> tags, as soon as i save it, or check preview for that matter, FP automatically puts the <dd> back where it thinks it is.

is there any way to avoid this?? can't see anything under tools->options like word has.

also, how do i have linked stylesheets instead of embedded ones in FP? do i have to hardcode them manually??

using frontpage 98 in NT.

p.s. please dont ask me to switch to dreamweaver, i'd gladly do so, but unfortunately the ppl i work for doesnt have a license for dreamweaver. neither they own a newer version of FP. this is driving me nuts

However cant you open the file via notepad and save it that way and work from there?

<dd> you say? Do you mean <div></div>? I have never had FP put anything extraneous around my <img> tags. It does like to do <center><div align="center"></div></center> though when you build tables. :P

As far as the linking CSS

<LINK REL=STYLESHEET TYPE="text/css" HREF="style.css">

Be sure you have the correct path in the HREF section.

Let me know on the autoformatting thing.

Yes, a little more information would be helpful. I'm not following myself. Sorry.

My suggestion would be to unload FP. Not only does it do silly litle things like that, compatability between browsers is also an issue, unless you define that in the code.

What looks good on FP in IE will look "off" in Netscape, and vice versa. I would look into getting Dreamweaver MX. You won't be disappointed and you can do a LOT more in DW than FP. It has features that FP won't ever have.
