Inserting HTML variables???

ok so i found some variables that i want inserted on a few webpages, such as the IP address of the person connecting. so this is the actual variable:

<get-var env::remote_addr>

How do i insert it on the page? If I just have that line the page comes up blank.

This html page has to be an .shtml page. You must have server side includes enabled on your server.
