FTP Server - Tech Support Forums

I have been trying to set up an ftp server. I am using WS_FTP server. I can't get to it when I type in the real name of it. I can only get to it when I type in the IP of it for my network. Anybody know why? I have the error message included in an attachment. Also, it is not because of any firewall. I disabled my firewall and attempted to access it and still the same thing.

what are you typing to get "the real name of it"
do you mean the computer's network name?

I mean by typing ftp://eddiescomputerworld.com

Or would I have to first put it in with my DNS people???

Try to connect to it from outside of your network most Routers lack local loopback functionality that is why you cannot connect to it from the DNS name.

I am guessing that if you have a DNS server on your network and you add that DNS entry you should be able to connect to it from within your network at that point.

Hmm, that is interesting. I don't have a DNS server on my network currently. I have it hosted by www.zoneedit.com.

I was able to connect to your FTP server through that link but not login as you are not allowing anonymous logins so it is working just an FYI.

I know it works. I can get to the login screen but, I just get that error message when trying to log in. Give me about a minute and I will allow anonymous access. Please let me know if it works. Thanx.
