Apache2+SSL howto

I want to setup a website (content will be my private images, that only people I know will have access).

I'm planning on running it ontop of w2k.

So I went and downloaded Apache v2. It doesn't include ssl.
I looked over at apache-ssl addin, but couldn't figure it out (it says on their page it only works with apache 1.3 and 1.4 or so)

It says things about compiling and stuff about which I don't understand.

Would someone have an easy-to-understand tutorial for setting up a ssl password protected web site under apache?

So far I've downloaded the msi package of apache, the source of apache and tar-gzipped pack of apache-ssl addin 1.3.9.

It just breaks me to say I can't understand their helps

To password protect a sites contents you can use the .htaccess file .......... (see link above)

ssl is secure socket layer that encrypts all stuff going to and from a site...but doesn't password protect someone from getting in........... make sense??
