depending on what kind of a sight you want destructobro, i'd say. to be honest, i've tried both adobeGolive and Dreamweaver, and have to say that dreamweaver is way better. that's just my personal thought.
If you're versatile enough at html i found that my best sites are normally just hand coded in the netscape composer function of said browser. Having said that i do use dreamweaver a fair bit, simply because it's much tighter integrated with its' other relaeses, such as flash and fireworks and offers easier import facilities for given applications.
As far as wysiwyg (what-you-see-is-what-you-get) web applications go, i believe Dreamweaver to be the best solution to anyones webdesign needs.

I have to say dreamweaver also. I think the interface is more intuitive. It's quite powerful but remains fairly user friendly. When not using a trusty text editor I do my web design in dreamweaver.

I, too, vote Dreamweaver. Download and get to know a trial ver of DWMX. It's a sophisticated app and has a learning curve but if you learn it, imho, it's leaps and bounds better and can't be compared to the rest.
I must admit I briefly tried GoLive but wasn't that interested in learning it as I had already significant experience with DW and preferred to keep using DW. So I cannot accurately compare them.
I love the Code/Design view and other feature rich components are winners. I've learned alot about HTML/XML/ JS, etc. just by using DW's Code/Design views. Also, their Layers conversion option is a lifesaver.
You can download a free trial of DWMX at www.macromedia.com
You can also find some comparison reviews via google.com; just type in: dreamweaver mx vs. adobe golive or dreamweaver mx vs. front page or whatever and see what pops up
If it's something I want to quickly look at or just need a full-bodied text editor, I use Textpad from Helios http://www.textpad.com/index.html |

WYSWYG -- Dreamweaver is probably one of the best.
For coding by hand, NOTETABPRO is awesome. (Windows)
In Linux..... BLUEFISH works great ! (I use this one the most). |

I guess that I will chime in to support the other side of the fence...I like golive better (love those layout grids ), but the main reason I like it is because it relates really well to the other Adobe products that I use everyday (similiar user interface) such as photoshop, illustrator, acrobat, etc. And you can easily integrate those formats directly into golive (.psd, .ai file types, etc.) without having to convert seperately. Just my two cents.

I've found in doing web design for over 3 years now, that the Dreamweaver application is probably the best. If you have the chance (and funds) purchase a copy of Macromedia's Studio MX (MX Plus just came out). Studio MX streamlines Dreamweaver MX, Flash MX, Fireworks MX, and Freehand MX to develop awesome front end web pages while giving you a Developers copy of Cold Musion MX and JRun 4 to integrate server side applications into your site. I have to say, it was an awesome invention on their part. I have been using Dreamweaver since I first purchased Dreamweaver UltraDev and have never regretted it. Hope this helps.

Dreamweaver MX is the way to go.
I've been a designer with intel for years and we used to swear by Homesite...but then Macromedia incorporated the best of Homesite with the best of Dreamweaver in making MX. You can design using the Homesite interface, the Dreamweaver interface, or the new MX interface.
I can't even begin to describe all of it's features, but it supports everything from HTML to XML...and the code is clean and that's what counts.
Forget GoLive...don't event think about FrontPage. |

I'm another vote for Dreamweaver
This is one serious tool, and I started out with notepad.
Since then, I've been through Hot Dog (Win31), BBEdit(Mac), Frontpage (NT4), VI (Redhat), and of those, the only contender (and only WSYWYG) to the Dreamweaver throne was Frontpage.
Frontpage was annoying in the extreme in that I'd go into it and tweak source, hit save, and Frontpage would look at my changes, and go "oh, he must have meant" and jack it all around! AIGH!
Dreamweaver won't tweak your source edits, and will show you if you left any open tags.
Add to this the ability to record yoour own comands, work in conjunction with Fireworks amd Flash on sharp looking menus,
and you have a totally winning package.
Plus, as I currently develop with Mac OSX and WinNT4/Win2K, it's nice that they produce full packages that work well with each.
There's also Swish, a (windows-only) piece of software that will let you make great looking lettering effects in flash format with a minimum of work. Generate your lettering in Swish, and import the lettering into Flash as a string of keyframes on a layer, then add the object animations-Fun and productive! |
