It's a MS-based idea-- So it works with VBscripts. Got a friend who does a lot with it, built an auction site for a company using ASP.
As for servers, since it's MS, the server has to run Windows NT/2000 Server. |

ASP works on Unix (or Linux) through an Apache mod called ChilliASP. Infact, sometimes it runs pages faster than a IIS 5 box I use alot of ASP on my pages. There is also ASP.NET and you need .NET Framework to run it. I like to use .NET Framework 1.1 Final Beta. works real well.

Creatures,
An alternative for ASP would be PHP. But ASP.NET has greater functionality over PHP, IMO.
You could also check out JSP (Java Servlet Pages) if you are totally anti-MS.
ColdFusion might also be worth checking out.
