| Help me and my site...fear of "Page not Found!"
I currently host my own site..munkys.com. I purchased my domain from namesdirect.com. Here's the problem, it fowards my domain, a crappy job might I add. I think that I want to actually RESOLVE the domain to my ip. I've been told I need to have a DNS server but I don't know how. I'm running the site on a Gentoo linux box. I don't want to do too much work. I don't know where to start...any ideas? |

DNS (domain name server) tells all the other computers in the world where to find you. www.zoneedit.com
is a DNS service. |

I use WorldwideDNS. It's $10/yr and they do a great job. I have two domains resolved through them.

For $5 a year I use www.dhs.org
It is nice since I can edit my IP anytime I want and it updates the next day.

Its somewhat static...cable modem. I have optimum online (shh dont tell) if it is changed it is very random. I only have one site so I'm going to try registering for the free one.
I'm confused...firstly my site does not run on port 80...yet 1111 (my isp blocks 80 ) secondly, is this going to change anything. I went and registered, and I don't see where you can choose where to point the main site to. as in munkys.com. Please help me, i need to resolve (pun) this problem!

The DNS service points to your IP address.......... I use a cable router........and can set it to forward port (whatever) requests to my server port 80
Outside world port 1111 to My servers port 80.
Or if you can set your server to respond to port 1111 then you can do it that way also. |

| nice thing about zoneedit is that it updates instantly cool eh? Quote: |
I don't see where you can choose where to point the main site to.
| under your zone in zoneedit select "Web Forward". under there make sure both munkys.com and www.munkys.com are redirected to http://put.your.IP.here:1111 and that both are cloaked. let us know if you have any other questions!
