ODBC is a Microsoft term for the way you can connect to a database. You can get ODBC drivers for Access, SQL, Excel, and I think even a flat text file.

most any DB (of any value), supports ODBC.

I think the sales people throw out as many acronyms as possible hoping that you, the client, will go into MEGO mode and hand over a big check (MEGO = My Eyes Glaze Over) :P
