1.) Get nice connection to internet.
2.) Get nice server.
3.) Sell space.
4.) ....
5.) Profit!!!
Sorry...Slashdot thoughts ran through my head.. =]
But that's still the basic idea.. heh |

I have kinda looked into this incase i ever come across some money LOL
but gothic is basically right.
buy a T-1 or great connection to your house. hook up a router (for more then one server). setup your servers, firewalls, software. Oh buy some ip addies.. advertise and keep it up and running
Some network guys can give you more details but that should be about it...(
it has to be more complex - - or is it just that and money of course

You could always buy rent a server from www.rackshack.net
400GB Transfer for $99 a month, not the greatest servers around.
Or you could resell from another company |

Yeah, you could grab space from another company, and resell..
There are benefits to this approach. The upfront cost is a *lot* lower.. Which gives you that needed time to grow without (much) loss of funds. You also don't need to keep the hardware either in your house or in an office.
Drawbacks to this approach include: You are at the mercy of the provider's network.. Including random network outages, insecurity, and bandwidth usage. Another drawback (For people like me) is that the hardware isn't right next to you, so you don't get full control of it, and can mess with it physically whenever you want.
Getting a Frac-T1 or a T1 to your house is pretty pricey. Can go anywhere from 300$ for a lowspeed T (Keep in mind, websites (Except major ones, Eg: techimo, slashdot, linuxtoday, etc) do not use much bandwidth.) up to around 1500$ for a full T.
Price depends a lot on your area, and your upstream provider may also give you a 'Managed' solution where they will control the router on your end. This does not appeal to me... I like hacking my ciscos up, and making them do what *I* want, and not what the provider wants.
Et cetra, et cetra.. =] |

I found this title on Amazon it looked interesting "The Complete Web Hosting Kit Professional". I might be too simple though?
