ClanIMO going postnuke...

Ive been talking to a gentleman about revamping the site to postnuke. We are currently running myphpnuke. While the site is nice as it is, there are a few things I dont like about it. The forum in every which way is substandard. We cant even sticky anythiing for Petes sakes. Postnuke offers a updated bulletiin w/ a ton of more options.

We are currently trying to figure out if the user database is the same as postnuke. They are somewhat close as he tells me and we might just be able to transfer the files over. The user database is the most important thing here. I dont want to delete everyone here then start over.

Postnuke is a much better proggie if you will, and offers many more options for the whole site. They even have a clan module. Then initial phase of postnuke Clanimo will be hidden for a long time. For testing and designing of the templates and gettting the modules to work properly.

Clanimo as it is now will stand for some time. We will not make the change until the graphics and modules of postnuke Clanimo work properly.

We will need some people to help out in this. Beta testers if you will. People to design graphics again or help redit the themes w/ the current graphics into the postnuke clanimo site. If you want to volunteer some time in this please let me know.

If you have anyquestions or concerns please contact myself or an admin.

Again this it not a for sure thing, its just a huge thought for a better site.

also the gentleman that has offered a wee bit of his time to help us out in this endeavor is MPIII Man, his site can be found at MPIII

edit: would help if I put a url eh!?

Didn't know you guys were even thinking of changing.....guess I should visit clanimo more often

One of the reasons I suggested myphpnuke and set it up in the first place was security and easy set up. I suggest you dig deep into the security issues surrounding post nuke. Although I like post nuke, I've always thought myphpnuke was a little more secure.......... just a thought.... could be wrong.

I ran postnuke on virtual-linux.org and it's forum was hit by some sort of bot. It posted something like 1000 posts before I got it shut out. Like I said, just some things to think about

The database shouldn't be too hard to transfer over. It might take some relabeling of table names,or manually moving data, but it should be fairly compatible. A quick search of the post-nuke forums (phpBB2 btw) showed no quick fix to moving a database from myphpnuke to phpnuke.

My new site http://www.usalug.org runs phpbb2 forums. These are proving robust and stable. The phpbb forums also have a huge support forum at http://www.phpbb.com. You can build a nice clan site based on the phpbb2 forums. Here is an example.
http://www.dk-clan.net/ ... based on phpbb2

Whatever you decide to do I wish you the best of luck.

Hmm I have been gone for a week so I didnt know about this. It might be worth doing, I may also have to find some one to replace me as webmaster for a while because I have some other webdesign jobs I have to do and a few problems at home.

myphpnuke 2 should have more features...some that you seem interested in. I'm sure the upgrade path would be easier . Just something else for you to look at.

Ive known about myphpnuke2, but it doesnt seem its coming around soon. So we must progress.

Again I said the change might not even go if the results from the Postnuke site arent great.

Invision has a free version and looks pretty cool. It works with MySQL, but I don't know how much work it is to get it working.
