apache webserver 2.0.46 help

I am trying to set up a webserver on my home computer for a small home services company. I have established a domain name, and have dns management. I have ADSL with 5 static IP adresses through SBC. My son in law and I are working together on this and we have gotten everything to work on his cable connection.
We have installed the same version of apache on all our machines, we each have two, one desktop and one laptop. When I install apache on my machines, the installation goes smoothly, however when I type http://localhost on mine neither of them bring up the default page. We can get his machines to bring up our own test webpage when we type my domain name into internet explorer from any of the four machines. I have gotten the DNS to go as far as my gateway, so I believe we have accomplished aiming the domain at my gateway. However, this is as far as we have gotten with mine. I have tried many different ways to check my connections. When I ping either machine from the other, I get 100%. When I ping my gateway with either machine, I once again get 100%. When I ping the five static IP's from either machine I get 0%. I do not know if this is a router problem, or just a lack of understanding on my behalf. My connection I believe is PPPoE. I do not want to misrepresent myself as someone who is very knowledgable in computers. However I do have an avid interest, and have been trying to get this situation resolved for almost two weeks. I simply do not know who to turn to next, and am at a loss for what my next step might be. I would greatly appreciate and advice given. Thanks, Tim

*edit* Oops, you said gateway. Is your gateway a router device, or what is it? */edit* =]

You mention you have a router. I think we need to know a little more about your network topology.

Do your machines only have routable (Eg: Not 10-net, not 192.168.0.x-type) address?

What does your router do?

Let's start there, and get those out of the way, then we can answer more of your questions.

I told SBC I wanted to host a web server. They told me I needed ADSL with static I.P. addresses. The technician came out and installed a Caymen 3546 Gateway, replaced my phone line from the box outside, and installed a filter. This he said provided access to the WAN. He gave me five static WAN IP addresses, which I am under the impression they are all class A addresses. He also said I had an additional IP address, which was the IP address of the Gateway. From this point there are four ports in the back of this, whaht I presumed was a router, that I have two of my computers hooked into with patch cords. They are hooked directly to preinstalled 10/100 ethernet cards that were part of their origional configuration. I have researched the particular "router?" or Gateway, which perhaps you can clear up for me which they are, at Caymans site. It says something about creating a pinhole to allow a server to be run. Hopwever I did not want to start changin things without some sort of idea wht I am doing. I have also noticed that there are addresses when I do an ipconfig /all that are more in the form of **-**-**....etc. I hope this helps you understand more what my setup is like and I apologize for not knowing the proper terminology. Thanks, Tim

Also I forgot to mention, my computer does have IP addresses and subnet masks when I do an ipconfig.
