Crystal Reports 8, number to string table link?

I got this 2 dbf files that I must link together by a specific field but the field in one table is in number format and the other field in the other table is in string format. The data in the string field is the same as in the number field on the other dbf file, I know I could convert the string field to number but that would mess up the program that writes data into it! So what I wanna know is if it's possible to link'em with diferent formats! maybe to read the string field as a number field or something! I tried the usual way going to link expert but it won't work due to different formats. I'm using Crystal Reports 8.5 to design this report. Any help would be aprecciated! Thanks in Advance!

this might help, it's a bit similar anyways... Linking tables on a formula field instead of a database field

it's done thru a subreport, instead of doing the formula to concatenate for a match (like in the example), use a formula to convert to string/int (whichever way you need) and join thru it...??

can try doing some more searching here also.

good luck!

Other ways too. Instead of selecting the tables, base the report off of a view that is your 2 tables joined. If you're embedding this report in an application, base it off of a .TTX file and bring the 2 tables over into a recordset, and pass the recordset to the report.
