We have compiled a mental health service database using My SQL . The database consists of 3000 records which were input by a team of 12 volunteer people who have suffered from mental illness in the past. The database is online and will require one of the volunteers to be paid part-time to keep the records upto date online in the near future.
The database includes support groups, hospitals, day centres, special needs schools, trainng and work and housing. This is just a few of the comprehensive categories listed.
To fund this new job we will approach the local council for a grant that from our expereince will be a one off. What we really need is to find some way of commercialising so we obtain a steady income stream where interested parties donate or subscribe to use the database. This is similar to a scaled down e-commerce venture only we are a charity. What people/organisations and institutions could we promte this to? What are the most effective ways to market this online database to obtain sustainable income from donations and subscriptions ?
Thanks in advance

hmmm ,not sure this should be in the community, perhaps why you got barely any response, maybe the web authoring category?
who would use the data base? hospitals? researchers? you would need to market it to them. maybe come up with a .org name or something |

maybe your local chamber of commerce
Check with other larger more established organizations, to see if they will help... which would also bring you some credibility.

Try looking at foundations such as the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. There are also various "Empowering Communities with Data" grants out there. You know that Hospitals, sufferers, reseachers and support groups would be interested in this data. Why not check with your state's/province's hospital association and see if they have any thoughts about grant sources they have used. Also check with universities, especially ones with public policy institutes to see if they can connect you with grant organizations.
Most human services and universities where I live are at least patrtially funded through grants, endowments etc. You can do a google search on mental illness foundations etc too.
Hope this helps. |
