| Excellent code editor - Lightweight! http://www.scintilla.org/
SciTE
* works on windows and linux
* Syntax highlighting
** Existing presets for about 30 prog. languages
* Block tabs
* Block Commenting (can choose comment char for each language, but comes with it preset to the correct char by default)
* Source code available
* Collapsable functions and Conditionals (YES! finally found one with this feature )
I originally got this editor when I downloaded Ruby (very cool language!) but been playing around with it and I really like it It includes a preset for VBScript so I'm starting to use it more.
The only thing I don't like about it, is the configs are all text files, which is good because its more universal... however it would be nice if they had some sort of GUI because there are a LOT of options available and it takes awhile to scroll through the config.
Other thing that would be nice is if it was an MDI.. *shrug* can't have everything |

doh!
Forgot to include a screenshot
This is in VBS. The syntax highlighting isn't in extreme different colors which is nice because otherwise it gets difficult to read going from bright blue to black, to red... blech.
You can also see the functions below collapsed for less scrolling.
--- edit ---
Also as you can see, I use a very short tab (2 spaces ) so it also includes lines for the tabs. So in larger conditionals you can make sure you're indenting correctly and getting the right End If in there

I used it for a bit, quite cool. Coincidentally I think it was when I was looking for a good editor for ruby that I stumbled on scite. Wasn't long till I was back in vim though
Ruby is ace.

haha good ol' VIM
Another wonderful thing is, in the editor you can just hit F5 and it runs the script correctly (ie, with the correct scripting engine). Even puts the output in another pane for easy debugging.
Now if I could just step through code.. I'd be really happy

but java sucks
nah, I mostly use metapad for standard text editing.. and previously for all scripting.
However, with SciTE I'll be switching
Yes I can hit F7 to Build a VBScript (uses cscript, better for debugging) or F5 to just GO which uses WScript (equivalent to double clickign a vbs file)
So its nice
heard of textpad, but haven't tried it... thanks for the link |
