problem with IIS?

I am trying to get IIS working on my XP machine.

I create an ASP file and place it in my Inetpub\wwwroot folder (Not exactly sure if thats it as I am currently at work) When I type the address in my browser I get an error message regarding Server application error and to read the event log.

I know the address and folder I am using is correct as html pages display fine.
I went into the Control panel> administrative tools> IIS folder and enabled Scripting as per the setup instructions but still no luck. Does anyone know what I can try next?

Internet Information Server

Any web pages containing ASP cannot be run by just simply opening the page in a web browser. The page must be requested through a web server that supports ASP, this is why ASP stands for Active Server Pages, no server, no active pages.

As ASP was first introduced by Microsoft on it's web server, Internet Information Services (IIS), that runs on Windows 2000/XP Pro/NT4, it is this web server that ASP pages usually run best on.

For those of you running Windows and wish to play around with ASP on your own system you will need to install Microsoft's Internet Information Services (IIS). Lucky IIS or its micro version Personal Web Server (PWS) comes free with Windows.

did you say Free..?

Lucky IIS or its micro version Personal Web Server (PWS) comes free with Windows.

PWS was, IIS comes only with XP Pro (at least here in Europe), that doesn't mean free in my opinion :-)

Anyway... about your trouble... what does the log file say about it?

Regards,

JF

Log file location

Hi Trueman,

To know where your log file is, open the IIS admin tool, then right click on your web root directory, then properties, you then have to activate the log file, then which type, and if you click on the "properties" tag, you have the full path to the selected logfile... (It usually is c:/Windows/system32/logfiles/...)

Hope this helps,

Good luck,

JF

Just an idea if not fixed yet :

255770 PRB: Logon Failure: Unknown User Name or Bad Password When You
Run
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=255770

Good luck again,
