is java, php, asp, html coding for webpages or web applications really hard to memorize?
i've heard that some guys even compile entire websites off a simple "text editor"
i admit that i'm trully amazed by that.. an entire website off text editors. Im over here messing with DreamWeaver and FrontPage.
I would like to learn to build good looking pages for myself, for my future business, and for fun.
any special books you guys recommend me buying or looking into, or how about websites.
i dont know alot about htmL or java coding, but then again, its not terribly difficult to tell them apart.
thanks |

HTML is cake. It gets a little bit more involved from there, but you can do it all by hand and memorize it. It's just like learning lines for a play. |

I can memorize some things and then just use notepad but since I make crappy pages anyway!?!?!
Javascript, Java and php is just programming so you usually learn the stuff by practicing (as in any other progr. language such as C or C++ etc.).
Practice, practice practice and pretty soon you'll just be using notepad instead of Frontpage and all of that..!

Well, just to give you some encouragement, I made my site from a phpBB forum, and then added all the modifications by hand, and made the front page by hand. All done it Photoshop and phpedit(a text editor).
I just want to let you know that it IS possible, and is not really that hard. The best advice I can give you is to just do it. That's the best way to learn. But other than that. You can find help with a simple google search on any HTML command. A good program to start with is FirstPage 2000. It's freeware, but is pretty hard to find nowadays, so here is a direct download link from my site. (4.94 MB - Right-click > Save as...) It has four different modes, (Easy, Normal, Advanced, and Hardcore) and adapts easily from any one of those modes to the next level. It makes taking the jump from WYSIWYG(what you see is what you get) editing to text editing a snap. It's probably the best freeware text editor available. There are many features, and built-in HTML references and the format is awesome.
Hope this helps,
David |
