Wow, that looks so impresive.
Is this software available for the Window environment, and if you would not mind giving some places of refrence for the language?
I am interested in some image processing.

No idea on teh name though, although I'm sure Mr. Google can show you the way to enlightenment
Nice Eddy, didn't know you were into visuals

Cool. Yes headquarters, we have another addict. Or at least a potential addict.
It looks like you're getting the hang of things just fine. Plus the fact you are not intimidated by having to "code" your images instead of "paint" them. In fact, I'll bet you think it's more fun having to write code to produce these cool graphics than just using a plain'ol paint application.
As far as getting used to the placement of cameras, lights, etc. it won't take long at all till it is second nature. It truly is very simple. The only thing that you need to commit to memory is 3 little letters; X, Y, Z. The coordinates of the pov-ray universe. As long as you know your XYZ axis and the direction each one is responsible for then you've got it made.
In the very beginning, for me at least, I found it most helpful to stick a very simple diagram right on the border of my monitor. The diagram consisted of only 3 lines and 3 letters. The X axis going left/right. The Y axis going up/down. And the Z axis going forward/back. And just remember they are always, always, ALWAYS in that order. X, Y, Z. And always think of them in that order. Even when just talking to yourself trying to imagine placement of stuff. Always think X first, then Y, then Z.
Sounds simple I know, but if you keep it simple like that then it'll become second nature to ya in no time.

MrPurple: Yes povray is available for windows, I believe thats the platform OuT uses, checkout http://www.povray.org/ for downloads & documentation etc. Lemon[H]ead & I did some simple tests on rendering speed between his Win XP system & my linux box & they were almost identical.
Vass: Desktop is at 1280 * 1024 & I do like shiny 3D visuals, sadly I have the artistic skills of a colour blind hedgehog in a bag
OuT: The idea of coding the scene instead of dragging & dropping stuff is appealing, unfortunately I am now tempted by a dual CPU setup... never happy.
Crouse: You trying to install the linux version? If so, what problems are you getting?
Anyway... I just thought povray was kind of cool & showed that people can write quality software that works on Windows & *nix if they so desire.

You said XP and a linux box were almost identicle in speed. Must have been nearly identicle hardware in the two boxes, speedwise.
Ray tracing, during the rendering, is nearly ALL floating-point calculations and not much of anything else. As long as you're not multitasking because that will try to steal some CPU time. But as long as Pov-ray has access to that CPU and mainly the FPU, then it'll use it to it's fullest potential and run as fast as the hardware will allow. So the OS isn't such a huge factor.
And SE, you might want to check out the Pov-ray news server because I believe there are modded versions of it for multi-CPU enviorments. In fact I know there are.

Yeah the machines were almost identical, the linux box is an XP 1800+ & I think the Windows machine was an XP 1600+ or 1700+ clocked to the same speed (as a result it had a higher fsb). During the test I was multi-tasking a little with irc, email, web borwser, 8 terminals, ogg player & 12+ desktops all open... probably not ideal (but more memory intensive than CPU except for the music)
Thanks for the multi-CPU info I will check it out.

I mostly play UT & RTCW on my linux machine, I also have Max Payne, SoF, SoF2 & Jedi Knight 2 installed but I am not much of a gamer really.
Just playing with SOR's on povray at the moment.
