funny thin, i almost did the same thing to my computer last night. Its a piece of crap case and i was having heat issues and didn't want to drive to a computer store for the proper screws so I was going to use zipties and put it on the outside.

heh, I once mounted a fan externaly outside the psu because the psu fan went out. It worked quite well actually.

In this case the fan hadn't gone out. The fan that was in there was a 24/7 full-speed, server grade fan - very noisy. So I took the internal fan out of the PSU, cut the restrictive fan grill out and did the above. Ran the fan leads in thru the adapter and out thru the back of the PSU case to my fan controller. Worked great.
