Wasn't running worth a poop on Saturday morning when I picked it up. Backfiring, power stutter and only went to 4,200 RPM going home. (Stater was hooped. Replaced)
Looked it over when I got home. Sparkplug wire was arcing and not supplying enough spark to the plug. Refit of the wire to the boot and problem #1 solved. Need a new boot weather cap.
I had an idea the points were probably gone as well. All that blue on the pipes was un-burnt fuel igniting in the first curve of the pipes on 1 and 3. Either coil or points so I ordered points over the phone. They'll arrive Thursday.
Then I took a peek at the points. When I ordered the points the shop said gap at 35,000 when installing new points but it wouldn't run at 35,000 with old points. I arrived at 8,000 with worn points and questionable condensers. I don't know what book the guy at the shop was reading but it sure wasn't the one for my bike.
I’m getting up to 6,500 RPM, out of a redline starting at 9,500 RPM now which is good enough for this weekend. Road tested for a couple hundred kilometres. Lifts the front wheel off the ground, 1st and sec. gear on power take-off.
Anyone have a speed-o for this beast? This one’s hooped. (found one)
The B.C. Interior and a motorcycle. It’s going to be a good summer.
